We are alive and kicking!
After the back and forths of the last couple of months with the availability of tradable instruments and other infrastructure concerns, we have decided to bite the bullet and launch. Even though the conditions are perfect, it is fair to say that they never will be, and we will always be battling on one front or another, so we thought it best to start regardless. This will help us build up a live track record which will in turn help raise assets under management as well as to further adapt and get used to the nuances with things like spread differentials.
So, May was the last month of forward testing for Ubique, where we saw another positive month. Keeping Up with The Joneses, was a little quieter in May and will continue to be so for the next few months due to how it structured, but it still put up 5.60%, Golden Ratio held relatively steady putting up 0.26% and Fear and Loathing saw one of its largest one days moves in 30 years which we were able to capture, resulting in a monthly gain of 4.36%. Combined, this took Ubique to 1.79% for the month and now leaves it 11.53% up on the year.
It must be said that with gold stopping its retreat and the S&P500 not being able to break its highs on five attempts now, our oscillator has tightened up somewhat, and if it continues like this, we might be swapping back into gold before the year is out. Of course, we have no way of knowing this for sure, but it would be interesting if we saw another reversal this year.
On the website now, you will notice that everything has been updated to reflect the new strategies. To keep it more realistic, all numbers, returns, percentages etc, are net of everything, including performance fees and we have even added in a 0.4% fee each month into our returns to better simulate things such as slippage, swaps and other ancillary costs which are harder to legislate for. In reality, we are seeing this number closer to 0.25% per month but as the adage goes, better to under-promise and over-deliver.
Looking forward, we have some exciting things on the horizon. Once we bedded in with our live account a little more, we will then re-open it outside money. We had an investor approach us who wanted to both invest and bring this to his clients, however, with some of the changes which have happened, primarily the temporary loss of FnL strategy due to the VIX being pulled as an instrument from our Broker, we decided not to put that on hold until it was resolved. Thankfully, we have now found another broker (VantageFX) who offer the VIX as well. All this month we will be testing their offering to see if it holds up to scrutiny. If it does, then there is a chance that we will migrate over to them. If this is the case, we will ensure all trading positions are flat first at our current broker before the switch so there is a complete and legible history between the two accounts.
We also have a few other strategies in the works which are currently at the testing phase. If successful, then we may look to integrate these into Ubique in the coming months as well. This will benefit the fund by diversifying overall strategies being traded and hopefully look to de-correlate the fund even further, as these look at currencies, commodities, as well as stocks and crypto, potentially.
That is about it for May, it has taken a while to finally pull the trigger due to ever-changing circumstances, but now that we have, we can embark on the next chapter of building up a live history and therefore credibility which in turn will make it easier to raise funds to take Ubique to the next level.
